Blazer Your Own Trail

Posted on

Walking the streets of NYC, the fashion certainly evolves from different neighborhoods to boroughs. On the Upper East Side it is all about the “it” bag, the large purse that screams a designer brand! You will also see all sorts of high heels there. Travel down to Chelsea and everyone is sporting a small dog as arm candy and a very fierce haircut. In Times Square the tourists are clutching puffy coats and fanny packs. On the Upper West Side every has a pair of perfectly tailored, dark-wash jeans. They also wear perfect peacoats and wool trenches. In Morningside Heights, the college students are traipsing around in T-shirts and Uggs. In Williamsburg the men (and sometimes the women?) are confident in handlebar mustaches, and steampunk nods to the Victorian era. If not so fancifully minded, the Chuck Taylors will do. West Village street style is defined by a tight, dyed pant and a flowwy top and never-ending locks, the interns trotting from store to store with coffee in hand.

Regardless, wherever I may be from Alphabet City to the Bronx, I always see several confident women bedecked in a blazer. The blazer is the proverbial tabula rasa of tops. It can be elbow-patched and dun colored, black and sharp, oversized and comical, or whimsically printed. I believe our outer fashion says a lot about our interior fashion – our insides being our homes. Lets explore what armchair each blazer-wearing lady would sit back and relax on by the end of the day – and perhaps I’ll leave you to wonder which novels each will be reading.

About Keren

My name is Keren. I was once a pigeon in Paris, pecking at street cheese, and dreaming of anthropomorphism.
